Te bave the bonour to apply for an increase
of our present salary and to request that you will kindly submit the matter, with your recommeulation to His Excellency the Officer Alministering the Government through the proper channel.
Te beg to abats that we are holding offices under you as Chinese Triters and Assistant Shroffe. The pay that we are now getting reages from $14 to 17 a month.
The cost of living has of late increased out
of proportion to the rate of our income. That would have enabled us to live comfortably and decently a year or two ago is now hard-
ly sufficient to meet our daily wanbs. And what with our wife and children we find ourselves in very poor circumstances.
Our work has also become heavier than formerly as will be seen by the increased number of changes of house holders licences to..
le therefore hope that our embarrassed oir- cumstances will commend themselves to your favourable consideration and move you to recommend the subject of our request to His Excel- lency the Officer Commanding.
